What’s Next for the Mobile Garden Project
Expanding Our Reach
The Mobile Garden Project began as a pilot program at the Tierney Learning Center in South Boston, and its success has inspired us to think bigger. As we look to the future, we are excited to expand our efforts, bringing the benefits of gardening education to more communities and centers across the region and beyond.
Deepening Our Roots
Our long-term vision is to create a lasting impact by institutionalizing the Mobile Garden Project as an annual program at the Tierney Learning Center and other centers. This will provide students with ongoing opportunities to plant, oversee, and harvest gardens through multiple cycles, allowing them to continuously learn and grow.
Developing New Programs
We are exploring new ways to engage students and the community through the Mobile Garden
Project, including:
Cookbook Collaboration:
We envision working with a local chef to develop a community cookbook that features recipes using produce grown by the students. This cookbook would be a tangible outcome of the students' hard work and a tool to promote healthy eating habits within the community.
Harvest Celebrations:
Building on the success of our initial Harvest Celebration, we plan to host larger community events that bring together students, families, and local businesses to celebrate the fruits of the students' labor
Children’s Book Project:
We aim to work with TLC students to create a children’s book that illustrates and describes the process of planting and caring for a garden. This project would not only enhance their literacy skills but also serve as a resource for other children interested in gardening.
Expanding to New Locations
With the foundation laid at the Tierney Learning Center, we are eager to introduce the Mobile Garden Project to additional locations. Our current plans include:
Satellite Programs:
We are in discussions to bring the Mobile Garden Project to other community centers in the Boston area and beyond. These satellite programs will replicate the success of the TLC pilot, offering more students the chance to engage in gardening and environmental education.
Partnerships with Local Farms:
We are exploring opportunities to partner with organic
farms outside New England, allowing students to visit and learn about larger-scale agriculture while applying their knowledge back in their community gardens.
Join Us on Our Journey
The future of the Mobile Garden Project is bright, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand and enhance our program. However, we can’t do it alone. Your support is crucial as we work to grow this initiative and bring the joy of gardening to more children and communities
